Continued the March for Those Who Died in ICE Custody

96.5 Miles Continued

This week, I walked with faith leaders, advocates, and community members as they continued their 96.5-mile pilgrimage from Adelanto to Downtown Los Angeles to demand an end to Donald Trump’s inhumane treatment of immigrants.

These marchers endured temperatures topping 100 degrees because they know what's at stake. Families are being torn apart, people are being taken from our streets, and immigrants have lost their lives in ICE detention centers. This cannot become our new normal.

I want to thank the many faith communities and advocates who organized this powerful march. Their determination is a reminder that when our neighbors are under attack, we stand together. I'll continue doing everything I can in Congress to protect our immigrant communities and hold ICE accountable.

Met Our Future Leaders at Mount Washington Elementary

Mt. Washington Elementary

I had a great time visiting the bright young students in the GATE program at Mount Washington Elementary School, and let me tell you, these kids came prepared!

They asked me some tough questions about protecting endangered animals, stopping big corporations from harming our environment, and why workers go on strike. They weren't afraid to ask questions, challenge ideas, or tell me what they thought needed to change. That's exactly what I love to see from our next generation of leaders.

I left that classroom feeling hopeful about our future. My message to these students was simple: You're never too young to make a difference. Keep asking tough questions, keep speaking up, and never let anyone tell you that your voice doesn't matter.

Made Another Surprise Visit to ICE's Downtown LA Detention Center

October B18

Since Donald Trump began his mass immigration raids in Los Angeles, I've made it my mission to hold ICE accountable for what it's doing to our communities.

When the Trump administration tried to stop me from inspecting ICE detention facilities, I took them to court and WON. Now, I'm using my authority as a member of Congress to conduct unannounced inspections of ICE's B-18 detention facility in Downtown LA, because ICE shouldn't get advance notice to clean things up before members of Congress show up.

These inspections are about making sure people in federal custody are being treated humanely, uncovering abuses, and demanding answers from an administration that would rather operate behind closed doors.

Let me be clear: No government agency is above the law, and ICE is no exception. Winning in court was an important step, but our work is far from over. I'll keep showing up, asking tough questions, and demanding accountability for the families and communities we represent.

Sincerely,
