Dear friend,

One of the first things President Trump did after being inaugurated in 2017 was appoint Ajit Pai – an ally of special interests – as Chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As Chairman, Ajit Pai took the reckless step of repealing a landmark rule that was designed to keep the internet free and open — Net Neutrality.

Net Neutrality required internet providers to treat all internet traffic equally — whether it came from the servers of a big financial corporation, or from the garage of an aspiring young entrepreneur. Net Neutrality created a level playing field online that has helped small businesses, innovators, and consumers alike.

I believe in a free and open internet. As lawmakers, we must protect the principles the internet was founded on, especially now that they are under attack by the Trump administration.

That’s why I’ve been working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to bring back Net Neutrality. In the House, I cosponsored H.J.Res.129, which would overrule Chairman Pai and restore the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules. I also support California’s recently passed Net Neutrality laws – the strongest in the nation – in the face of attacks by the Trump administration.

Sign up to receive updates from my office as we continue the fight for Net Neutrality.

Sincerely,

U.S. Congressman Jimmy Gomez
