Hello Friend,

Earlier this week, the nation celebrated the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a champion of justice whose legacy as a dreamer and man of action continues to inspire people worldwide. Despite living in a time of Jim Crow laws and divisive racial violence, Dr. King knew America was capable of a better, more promising future. With peaceful protesting and spirited leadership, he challenged our country to strive for a more perfect union.

Dr. King’s remarkable legacy continues to inspire many to stand up for important causes like fair, humane immigration reform.

Today, over a million DREAMers and Temporary Protected Status holders are under the dire threat of being expelled from their homes, communities and country. When he ended the DACA program, I believe the President fabricated a crisis, a nightmare with a countdown clock set squarely in front of law-abiding people that instead deserve dignity, safety, and peace of mind.

DREAMers and TPS holders are integral members of our society. They are our family members, neighbors, and colleagues. They are the owners of our favorite deli, our long-time family doctors, or our kids’ favorite teachers.

Some were brought to the United States at such a young age that they have never really known any other home. Others have been here for years and are proud to claim this country as theirs. All are American in spirit if not on paper.

That is why I co-sponsored the DREAM Act and the American Promise Act, legislation which would provide permanent residency for DREAMers and TPS holders. With unwavering resolve, I pledge to continue championing for the justice I know everyone deserves.

There is no better way to honor the memory of Dr. King.

Sincerely,

Rep. Jimmy Gomez
