Meet Rep. Gomez’s State of the Union Guest, Westlake DREAMer Itayu Torres:

“My name is Itayu Torres. I was born in Mexico and came to the U.S at 6 months. I grew up in Los Angeles, California. I come from a mixed status family. My sister is a U.S Citizen, however, I am undocumented. At age 14 I found out I was undocumented and in 2014, I had the opportunity to qualify for DACA. DACA has given me many opportunities such as having access to state identification, work permit, health care, traveling, and protection from deportation. With DACA, I was able to travel out of state and go to an out of state college. I attend Pasadena city college at the moment. However, I’m planning to go back to Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. I am majoring in political science and business I am also part of the California Dream Network (CDN) Steering Committee. Being in the CDN has made me grow as a person and I aim to continue fighting for a Clean Dream Act and immigration reform for as long as it takes. I hope to make my way up to the Senate so my voice can be my community’s voice and give back to others.”
