It’s back-to-school day for Los Angeles Unified School District! I welcomed students at John Liechty Middle School in MacArthur Park and stood with UTLA, teachers, parents, and immigrant rights groups to make sure every student feels welcomed, supported, and safe.

What I saw inside the DTLA detention center was straight out of the Twilight Zone. Just months ago, this facility held 300 detainees a day. When I walked in, it was empty with every trace erased. People are vanishing under Trump. We cannot let this go on any longer.
