Rep. Gomez Votes NO on Inflated & Discriminatory Defense Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):

“House Republicans are going to extreme lengths to peddle their hard-right agenda, including using the defense budget to take fundamental liberties away from servicemembers. By banning basic reproductive care for women in uniform, discriminating against LGBTQ+ military members, and using this bill to further their extreme culture wars, Republicans are chipping away at our freedoms. I will not vote for a bill that clearly violates civil liberties and shovels hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars into a wasteful, inefficient defense budget. Instead of caving to the defense lobby, our country must drastically cut and reform defense spending and use those savings to provide Medicare For All, affordable housing, child care, cancel student debt, and tackle climate change.”
