WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Representatives Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement on former President Donald Trump's third criminal indictment:

“Donald Trump led a treasonous conspiracy to overturn the results of a free and fair election that he lost. It’s about damn time he joins the over 1,000 domestic terrorists who have been charged for participating in the January 6th insurrection.  

“I witnessed firsthand in the House gallery as Trump’s mob of supporters attempted to bring down our government through an attack that led to the deaths of five people. This indictment is proof that no one is above the law.

“Trump’s day in court will allow the American people to view the evidence of his involvement, including video, photos, and testimony from his own supporters, unbiased by the political process.”

Background on Donald Trump’s insurrection: 
•    Five people died during or soon after the riot
•    More than $2.8 million worth of damage was done to the Capitol and grounds
•    The Federal Bureau of Investigation has estimated that 2,000 people may have been involved that day, and considers the attack an act of domestic terrorism.
