WASHINGTON, D.C. - In response to the news that the ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war was extended an additional day, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement:
“Any extension of a ceasefire and additional release of hostages in the Israel-Hamas war is welcome news, as I’ve said previously. Every extension and release of hostages moves negotiations closer to achieving an enduring ceasefire. I believe today’s ceasefire must again be extended to continue the return of hostages, ensure aid gets to the area and advance stability in the region. Additionally, the Hamas leaders who ordered and carried out the premeditated and deliberate October 7th attacks on civilians must be held accountable.
“Israelis and Palestinians deserve safety and the chance to realize the promise of a two-state solution—extending the ceasefire and ensuring all hostages are released is a clear path toward making that a reality.”
