WASHINGTON, D.C. — Gomez released the following statement after voting to send humanitarian aid to Gaza and Ukraine and to deliver a clear message to Iran:
“Our country has a duty to promote peace and stability around the world, and that includes providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, pushing for a ceasefire that lets Palestinians and Israelis peacefully coexist, and using every diplomatic tool to promote global stability. It’s true that no legislation is perfect and I would have written these bills differently, and it is also true that—because of Republicans pairing needed aid with other provisions—this is one of our only chances to get critical assistance to Gazans, to Ukraine and to Taiwan. It also sends a clear message to our known adversary, Iran, that they cannot attempt to further sow chaos in the region. I remain convinced that Benjamin Netanyahu is an impediment to peace and he must heed international calls to end this cycle of violence. As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, my vote was cast based on U.S. security interests and the promotion of global peace and stability, not on politics.”
