Rep. Gomez Urges Adoption of Ceasefire-Hostage Release Proposal

Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement on the ceasefire-hostage release proposal that was newly reported on as tensions continue to escalate in Rafah: “I was one of the first members of the House to call for a ceasefire that secures the release of hostages and helps achieve enduring peace in the region. There is a proposal on the table that does just that and it should be accepted. This step toward a permanent ceasefire is critical,” said Gomez. The proposal includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, release of Israeli hostages, release of Palestinian prisoners, unrestricted movement of Palestinians to northern Gaza and a ceasefire with the possibility of more permanent peace. Reports indicate both the Israeli government and Hamas lean in support of this ceasefire-hostage release plan. ### |
