Congressman Jimmy Gomez: Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act Increases Risk of Gun Violence
Washington,

Congress should work to pass legislation that prevents senseless violence, especially after suffering through the Sandy Hook, Orlando, and Las Vegas mass shootings.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) issued the following statement after voting NO on H.R. 38, the so-called Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which overrides state concealed carry laws. Under the bill, states with strong concealed carry laws, like California, are compelled to adhere to concealed carry permits from states with very weak laws. “The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is a race to the bottom that endangers public safety by allowing criminals and other dangerous individuals to carry hidden, loaded weapons into states with strict gun control laws, like California. Congress should work to pass legislation that prevents senseless violence, especially after suffering through the Sandy Hook, Orlando, and Las Vegas mass shootings. Instead, House Republicans are more interested in passing the NRA’s extreme agenda. It’s our responsibility as lawmakers to keep people safe, and we’re well overdue for a law that actually does that.” ### |
