Congressman Gomez on House Passage of Third Emergency Coronavirus Response Funding Package

Washington, D.C. – In response to the House passage of the third emergency coronavirus response funding package, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement:
“Once again, House Democrats have passed an emergency coronavirus response funding package that prioritizes our nation’s most vulnerable and at-risk residents. Once signed into law, this legislation will ease the various hardships constituents have endured in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, from dramatically expanding unemployment insurance and supporting local small businesses and workers to providing direct cash assistance for working families, strengthening our health care system, and supporting health care workers on the front lines of this pandemic. “It is important to note that the legislation we voted on today was not the legislation Republicans wanted us to advance. While their proposal put corporations before constituents and provided golden parachutes for our country’s wealthiest CEOs, House and Senate Democrats were determined to transform their proposal to one that puts money back in the pockets of the working class, students, and families. “There is no silver bullet – no panacea or quick fix – that will erase the trauma and economic damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The toll waged by this invisible threat is one that Angelenos will need to endure for years to come, but with financial support from the federal government, coordination by state officials, and our shared local efforts to help our neighbors and care for vulnerable communities, we’re going to weather this storm together and restore normalcy across our nation.” |
