If President Trump is truly sincere about the integrity of our democracy, he should dedicate resources to protect the integrity and independence of Special Counsel Mueller’s Russia investigation.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s termination of the so-called Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity:

“It’s no surprise that President Trump is ending his disgraceful voter fraud commission sham. The so-called ‘election integrity’ commission has proven to be exactly what we warned against: a giant waste of taxpayer money that yielded no proof or evidence of Trump’s false claims of voter fraud. If President Trump is truly sincere about the integrity of our democracy, he should dedicate resources to protect the integrity and independence of Special Counsel Mueller’s Russia investigation.”

Congressman Jimmy Gomez offered an amendment to H.R. 3354, an appropriations bill, to prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to provide personal voter information to Trump’s sham election commission.
