LOS ANGELES, CA – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D-Los Angeles), a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, issued the following statement after President Donald Trump announced a five-year nationwide plan for offshore oil and gas leasing. If approved, the plan would open all of California’s coast to offshore drilling. “President Trump’s unprecedented expansion of offshore drilling is the latest in a series of reckless actions by the Administration that favor special interests and corporate polluters over the protection of our environment and the safety of our communities. The Trump administration should focus on creating jobs, not jeopardizing them, and protecting our environment, not despoiling it. My Democratic colleagues and I will fight to protect the businesses, communities, and wildlife that rely on California’s pristine coastline.” ### |
