Rep. Jimmy Gomez: No More Excuses, Congress Must Censure Trump
Washington,
January 18, 2018
We can neither accept nor normalize Trump’s disparaging, un-American rhetoric as part of the political discourse.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) joined Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Cedric Richmond (LA-02), Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY-10) and other House colleagues in introducing a resolution to censure President Trump for his January 11, 2018, comments disparaging El Salvador, Haiti, and African countries. “No more excuses. Congress must censure Trump over his racist comments on El Salvador, Haiti, and African countries. We can neither accept nor normalize Trump’s disparaging, un-American rhetoric as part of the political discourse. After his morally stunted response to the violence that erupted in Charlottesville, this Republican-led Congress turned a deaf ear. Words matter, and Trump’s words are reckless, divisive and shameful.” In addition, Rep. Jimmy Gomez is a co-sponsor of H.Res. 496, a resolution to censure President Trump for excusing the violent conduct of white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the Ku Klux Klan at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Va. last year. ### |
