Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D - Los Angeles) released the following statement after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Trump administration will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program after a six-month enforcement delay:
“Any doubts about President Trump’s senseless cruelty were put to rest today. Immigrant youth and their families fuel our economy and help create a more dynamic society. Terminating DACA is a heartless and vile act that will upend lives, ruin families, and upset local economies. In this six-month period, Congress must find a permanent solution for DREAMers. Several measures – including the American Hope Act and the Dream Act – have been introduced by Republicans and Democrats. I call on my colleagues to end Trump’s callous action and save these accomplished young people from deportation.”
