February 9, 2018
On behalf of the City of Los Angeles, home to the largest Korean-American community in the United States, I congratulate South Korea on the start of what is sure to be an unforgettable Winter Olympic Games!
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) issued the following statement to mark the start of the 2018 XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. “On behalf of the City of Los Angeles, home to the largest Korean-American community in the United States, I congratulate South Korea on the start of what is sure to be an unforgettable Winter Olympic Games. For almost a century, the Winter Olympics have fostered the values of friendship, respect, and tolerance, which is especially needed on the Korean Peninsula. The Olympics will continue to create opportunities for people of diverse cultures, politics, and values to come together and find common ground. No place better exemplifies that mission than our very own City of Angels, home to the 2028 Summer Olympics. I look forward to seeing the exciting prospects the Olympics will bring for our city as it has for South Korea. I wish the best of luck to Team USA in this year’s Winter Olympics!” On September 13, 2017, Congressman Jimmy Gomez, who represents Los Angeles, introduced a bipartisan resolution in support of bringing the Olympics back to the city in 2028. ### |
