WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) issued the following statement today on voting “no” on the Republicans’ balanced budget constitutional amendment:
“Republicans in Congress preach fiscal responsibility, but they sure have a knack for not following through. Their recently passed tax law will explode the deficit by a tune of $2 trillion—yet now, all of a sudden, they care about balanced budgets. This cynical flip-flop is nothing more than a shameless attempt to meddle with our Constitution—all so they can finally make their right-wing fantasy of gutting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security come true.”
