Rep. Gomez Votes to Keep Government Open

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) voted YES on legislation to avoid a government shutdown, temporarily funding the government for 45 days. The bill will now head to the Senate. “Kevin McCarthy and the Republicans failed to cut aid for working families because Democrats held the line to avert a shutdown, put people above politics, and got this bill across the finish line. We blocked the GOP’s most damaging proposals that would have slashed food and housing assistance by over 30% and gutted other programs our communities rely on, and our work forced the Republicans to agree to a clean CR,” said Rep. Gomez. “McCarthy could have worked with Democrats to pass legislation to keep the government open weeks ago, but instead he held our country hostage and waited until the eleventh hour. He tried to use American families as pawns in his political game, but he lost.” ### |
