'They cant even get their story straight on why they're doing what they're doing,' Congressman Jimmy Gomez told DailyMail.com.
'Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy, they don't want to deal with immigration, they want to push it aside,' Congressman Jimmy Gomez, a California Democrat, told DailyMail.com. Gomez said GOP leaders only want to consider legislation favorable to the hard right. Gomez said that Trump's slam on Democrats was 'nonsense' and the president's 'just trying to use this as a campaign issue to help drag our his base and act tough on immigration.' 'What he's trying to do, as he's always trying to do, is trying to give red meat to his base on immigration,' Gomez said, 'and all our problems would be solved if Democrats would get out of the way.' He referred back to Trump's own attorney general's comments that family separation is a policy of this administration and that it's meant to be a deterrent to illegal immigration.
