Gomez, Padilla Introduce Resolution to Honor Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Championship

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Representative Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) introduced a resolution to congratulate the Los Angeles Dodgers on winning the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series Championship—their eighth championship in franchise history and first since 2020.

The Senate version of the resolution, introduced by California U.S. Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler, passed unanimously last night. Original cosponsors of the House resolution include Los Angeles area representatives Adam Schiff (CA-30), Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Linda Sanchez (CA-38), and Robert Garcia (CA-42).

“As the Representative for the heart of Los Angeles, including the iconic Dodger Stadium, I couldn’t be prouder of the Dodgers for bringing the World Series championship back home where it belongs. This victory is a testament to the talent, resilience, and determination of the players, coaches, and staff who gave their all this season,” said Gomez. “The Dodgers’ success isn’t just a win for baseball; it’s a triumph for our community, uniting Angelenos from all walks of life. After the heartbreak of missing a parade to celebrate our 2020 victory and the profound loss of one of the greatest of all time, Fernando Valenzuela, this championship and its celebration carry even greater meaning. Congratulations to the entire Dodgers organization and to the most passionate fans in the world who never stopped believing.”

“Once again, Los Angeles is on top of the baseball world,” said Senator Padilla. “The Dodgers overcame injuries and adversity to dominate the regular season and cruise through the playoffs to their second World Series title in five years. Thanks to Shohei, Freddie, Mookie, Teo and the rest of Dave Roberts’ championship core, the Dodgers put together a remarkable season that honors Fernando Valenzuela’s inspiring legacy and that Los Angeles will celebrate for years to come.”

The Dodgers' victory in Game 5 of the World Series marked the eighth World Series championship for the Dodgers franchise and their seventh title since moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958. The Dodgers’ 98 regular season wins gave them the best record in baseball and led to their 11th National League West Division title in the last 12 seasons.

The resolution also acknowledges the recent passing of Fernando Valenzuela, who spurred a unique connection between the team and the Latino community of Los Angeles. Valenzuela passed away just days before the start of the World Series.
