Rep. Gomez Hosts Renters’ Rights Workshop In Boyle Heights To Help Protect Neighbors From Illegal Rent Price Gouging

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) hosted a Renters’ Rights Workshop in Boyle Heights, bringing together local housing advocates, legal experts, and renters to discuss housing affordability, tenant protections, and his work in Congress to tackle the housing crisis. Gomez was joined by representatives from the LA Mission, Social Model Recovery Systems, and Loyola Law School’s Homeless Rights Law Society—who provided critical information to help renters understand their rights and access support.

“Too many renters are being pushed out by skyrocketing rents, unlawful evictions, and predatory landlords," said Rep. Jimmy Gomez. "I’m hosting this workshop with housing experts because renters deserve to know their rights—especially after a natural disaster like the LA fires.”

As Chair of the first-ever Congressional Renters Caucus, Rep. Gomez has been leading efforts in Congress to address the housing crisis and protect renters nationwide. His legislative priorities include:

  • The Community Housing Act, which invests over $500 billion into building affordable housing that stays affordable.
  • The Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act, which promotes converting vacant and underutilized commercial properties into new housing to help ease the housing shortage.
  • The Rent Relief Act, which would provide a tax credit to renters, ensuring they receive the same benefits that homeowners do.
