ICYMI: Rep. Jimmy Gomez Joins MSNBC And CNN To Discuss Signalgate, Calls For Defense Sec. Hegseth To Be Fired

Rep. Gomez: “It’s Time For Hegseth To Go”

In Case You Missed It, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) joined MSNBC’s Jen Psaki and CNN’s John Berman to discuss the Signalgate scandal, where top Trump intelligence officials used an unsecured Signal chat to coordinate military operations. NSA Director Mike Waltz accidentally added a journalist to the chat, who then published screenshots revealing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared classified information—including weapons, real-time targeting, and strike details.

MSNBC (Broadcast):

Jen Psaki: “What did you learn from the hearing, and what did you think of their answers?”

Gomez:First, they didn’t answer anything. And second, it just doesn’t pass the smell test. I mean, this is all pretty straightforward. One—they initially denied having this conversation until the report came out. Two—they’re denying any targeting information or what weapons were used. Then just yesterday, Tulsi goes on and uses the “I don’t recall” defense. You’ve been on the job for 43 days. This happened 10 days ago. You’re using Signal—not to plan where you’re going for lunch—but to coordinate a military operation involving lethal force? None of this makes sense. On any level. And they're straight-up lying to the American public. The “I don’t recall” defense just doesn’t hold up.”

CNN (Broadcast):

John Berman: “…Democrats have been responding to what Marco Rubio called a "big mistake" by the administration. What more do you think should be done?”

Gomez: “I think Democrats need to stay focused. We should be talking about what could’ve happened if the Chinese or the Russians had tipped off the Houthis with that information—because the consequences could have been severe. People with kids in the military are always worried about their loved ones serving in our armed forces.

So we have to stay focused on that. Yes, we need to ask tough questions, but we also need to keep bringing this up. Here’s the thing—even the guy from Barstool Sports said, “This doesn’t make sense. Somebody has to get fired.” And I agree. I believe the person who should be fired is Secretary Hegg. It was inappropriate to put that information in a Signal chat, and it’s time for him to go.”
