Congressman Jimmy Gomez Leads Letter to President Trump on Infrastructure

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles), co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus Rebuilding America Task Force, led a letter to President Trump with co-chairs Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA), Rep. Donald Norcross, and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), urging him to release a comprehensive infrastructure plan and work in a bipartisan fashion. As the Trump administration enters its tenth month, it yet has to present Congress with a plan to upgrade our nation’s infrastructure. “Infrastructure is something Americans of all backgrounds, across party lines, can support. We urge you to keep your word and release a comprehensive infrastructure plan and encourage you to work in bipartisan fashion,” read the letter. “We, as co-chairs of the Rebuilding America Task Force, stand ready to work with you, putting politics aside, to benefit all of our shared constituents.” The letter is available here. “President Trump promised a ‘first-class’ infrastructure plan. What we’ve seen thus far is a series of vague tweets and a half-baked proposal that is too small to meet the infrastructure needs of our nation,” said Congressman Jimmy Gomez. “Fixing our nation’s infrastructure is going to require an all-hands-on-deck approach, and I remain committed to pursuing a bold plan that creates millions of good-paying jobs without sacrificing protections for workers and the environment.” A serious infrastructure investment from the federal government could rebuild crumbling roads, update antiquated electric grids, and modernize archaic schools – improvements that are needed to move our country forward. Infrastructure is also a guaranteed job creator that would provide security for middle-class families and working men and women. One study from the Council of Economic Advisers found that for every $1 billion spent on infrastructure, 27,000 jobs are directly created. “President Trump has long touted his intent to overhaul America’s infrastructure, and yet, 10 months into his presidency, we still haven’t seen an actual plan to accomplish this goal,” said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY). “With the leadership of Rep. Jimmy Gomez, I’m confident in House Democrats’ ability to craft policy that will advance our nation’s infrastructure system and help create good-paying jobs across the country.” One of five House Democratic Caucus Jobs for America Task Forces, the Rebuilding America Task Force will put Americans back to work by modernizing our nation’s infrastructure, expanding job opportunities in key industries, launching a school construction boom, updating our power grid and water infrastructure, and taking a visionary approach to the projects needed to put our country at the forefront of innovation. The Jobs for America Task Forces will create opportunities for growth, boost hardworking families, and give every worker the opportunity to achieve the American dream by developing legislation focused on investing in key industries. The effort was launched by House Democratic Caucus in September. For more information on the House Democratic Caucus’ Jobs for America Task Forces, please visit: www.dems.gov/jobsforamerica ### |
