Washington, D.C. – In addition to serving on the House Committee on Ways and Means – the chief tax-writing body of the House of Representatives – Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) today announced he’ll also be returning to the House Committee on Oversight and Reform for the 116th Congress.
As the House of Representatives’ main investigative body — with broad jurisdiction over both the federal government and the private sector — the Oversight Committee is one of a handful of committees with the power to issue subpoenas.
“During my first term in Congress, I worked with my colleagues on the House Oversight Committee to expose the Trump administration’s attempts to silence immigrant communities by politicizing the 2020 Census, addressed Bank of America’s decision to end free checking accounts, and pushed back against House Republicans’ efforts to discredit the FBI in their investigation into Russian collusion,” said Rep. Gomez. “Under Chairman Elijah Cummings’ leadership, I’ll continue to work on these issues, investigate the numerous accusations of misconduct by cabinet officials, and finally hold this administration accountable to the American people.”
