WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) issued the following statement after Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt signed a proposed rule repealing the Obama administration's Clean Power Plan (CPP), a historic and important step toward reducing pollution that causes climate change:

“With this action, the Trump administration has doubled down on government-sanctioned pollution. This radical decision grants industry a broad license to pollute at the expense of the health and well-being of millions of Americans.

“This destructive action is taking place in the same week that California is being ravaged by wildfires. Climate change is real, and cannot be wished away by Trump and his gang of climate deniers. As destructive as this action will be for our nation, and for the world, it will not deter our progress or commitment to confront the impacts of climate change and support clean energy investments that will strengthen our economy and shape our future.”
