A senior Trump administration official has taken the unusual step of anonymously penning an essay that paints the President as a reckless and amoral madman who would have catapulted the country into a constitutional crisis many times over if it wasn’t for the gatekeeping “adults in the room.”

The essay, published by The New York Times on Wednesday, describes the unnamed official as a member of an administration-wide “resistance” against Trump.

The situation is so dire, the official says, that here have been “whispers within the cabinet about invoking the 25th Amendment” — the constitutional procedure by which the President can be removed from office because of mental illness.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.), who has cosponsored efforts in the House to impeach Trump, commended the unnamed official on finally realizing “what has been clear” since the 2016 campaign but said the anonymity is a sign of complacency.
