Congressman Jimmy Gomez on Supreme Court Taking Up 2020 Census Case

Los Angeles, CA — Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to fast-track a case regarding Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s decision to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census:

“In January, U.S. Judge Jesse Furman blocked the Commerce Department from adding an untested, unnecessary citizenship question to the 2020 Census. Now, as this case moves its way to the highest court in the land, I hope the U.S. Supreme Court will look at the facts and come to the same conclusion as the rest of the nation: The citizenship question is nothing more than an effort to silence immigrant communities and diminish the rightful electoral representation of states that oppose President Trump and his abhorrent policies.”
