WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today on the House floor, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) challenged Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D – Houston) to a friendly wager ahead of the World Series. Under the terms of the challenge, the Member of Congress whose team loses will deliver a congratulatory statement on the floor of the House while wearing the winning team's colors. They will also bring an iconic product from their district to share. A lifelong Dodgers fan and the representative of California’s 34th Congressional District, home of Dodger Stadium, Rep. Jimmy Gomez is wagering one of Los Angeles’ most iconic sandwiches, a French dip from Philippe's. “Ask any Angeleno, and they will agree that Philippe's is the obligatory first stop when cheering on the Boys in Blue at Dodger Stadium. Their French Dipped Sandwiches are legendary! Unfortunately for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, she will have to wait for another opportunity to try them because the Dodgers will win the World Series,” said Rep. Jimmy Gomez. “I look forward to her congratulatory praises on the House floor when we win the championship. Let’s go, Dodgers!” In the spirit of good sportsmanship, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee agreed to the wager. “It is common knowledge that everything is bigger in Texas and this includes, of course, our legendary barbecue. The unmistakable aroma and mouth-watering flavors easily make our brand of barbecue the best in the world,” said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. “But if Congressman Gomez is counting on the World Series to earn him a free plate, I am afraid he will be sorely disappointed because my Astros are about to crush his Dodgers. Sorry Congressman. I cannot wait to taste those French Dipped Sandwiches.” Click to watch Rep. Jimmy Gomez’s challenge, or view them here. |
