Washington, D.C. – In honor of Women’s History Month, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) issued the following statement:
“We cannot talk about the progress our country has achieved without mentioning the strong women who helped us get there. In the 100 years since they won the right to vote, we’ve seen women take charge of their destiny and produce some of the greatest achievements in science, entertainment, and politics — culminating in a historic number of women being elected to serve in the 116th Congress.
“As we approach the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment, let’s recognize the visionaries of our past and present — those like Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Dolores Huerta, and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg — who defiantly lifted our collective expectations by demanding a more equal, more just America. This Women’s History Month, let’s recommit ourselves to reshaping America to live up to their expectations — so that every young girl can grow up knowing that nothing stands in between her and her dreams.”
