Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) issued the following statement in response to a decision by a U.S. Federal Judge to partially block President Trump’s unconstitutional ban on military service by transgender troops. “President Trump’s unhinged edict-by-tweet targeting transgender military servicemembers was discriminatory, morally reprehensible, and unconstitutional. The court’s preliminary injunction is a crucial step to strike down this latest – but certainly not last – failed attempt by the Trump administration to target minority communities. Today was a victory for justice, for the LGBTQ community, and especially for our system of checks and balances, which has undoubtedly done more to protect the American people than this morally paralyzed, Republican-controlled Congress would ever be willing to do.”
