Newsweek: ICE Suffers Legal Blow Over Blocking Detention Center Visits

In a ruling issued Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Jia M. Cobb granted a request from Democratic members of Congress to stay ICE’s policy requiring lawmakers to provide seven days’ advance notice before visiting certain facilities.

Cobb found the policy likely violated federal law governing congressional access to detention facilities and exceeded DHS’s statutory authority...

The plaintiffs include Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse; Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Representative Adriano Espaillat; Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member Representative Bennie G. Thompson; Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Representative Jamie Raskin; House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Ranking Member Representative Robert Garcia.

Also among them was House Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Ranking Member Representative J. Luis Correa; Representative Jason Crow; Representative Veronica Escobar; Representative Dan Goldman; Representative Jimmy Gomez; Representative Raul Ruiz; and Representative Norma Torres.
