Forbes: New Epstein Files Released—As Democrats Ask Whether DOJ Scrubbed Trump Photos

The Department of Justice released additional files related to its investigations into Jeffrey Epstein Saturday as Democrats questioned whether the Justice Department removed an image of President Donald Trump from the files released Friday.
The files released Saturday include transcripts of interviews with witnesses and investigators conducted as part of the agency’s probes into Epstein in Florida and New York and grand jury information from its New York investigation. The second wave of files was released as Democrats on the House Oversight Committee accused the Justice Department Saturday of removing a photo of President Donald Trump from the first tranche of files released Friday. “If they’re taking this down, just imagine how much more they’re trying to hide…This could be one of the biggest cover ups in American history,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., tweeted. Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., said the Justice Department “appears to be scrubbing any mentions of Trump from the Epstein files after they were already public,” adding, “every deleted file, every redaction after-the-fact is outrageous and unacceptable. This is an active cover-up, and we need answers.” Among the grand jury materials in the files published Saturday, is a transcript of a 2019 interview with an FBI special agent who detailed his conversation with a girl who was 14 when she said Epstein sexually assaulted her at his Manhattan home when she was recruited to massage him. The names of the agent and prosecutors involved in the case are redacted from the document—it’s unclear why as the law sets specific parameters for the redactions, though the Justice Department has said the files contain “pre-existing redactions required by applicable law, regulations, and court orders.” Full article |
