LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement after requesting the EPA and FEMA stand ready to provide federal assistance as the Lineage Logistics fire in Boyle Heights continues.
"My office is closely monitoring the fire in Boyle Heights and remains in direct contact with local emergency management officials, the EPA, and the offices of the Governor, Mayor, and LA County Supervisor.
"I’ve also urged the EPA and FEMA to stand ready to provide federal assistance if requested by local and state governments, including support for air quality monitoring, public health guidance, cleanup, and recovery efforts.
"Our top priority must be the safety of residents, workers, and first responders as crews continue their response. This fire is impacting working-class immigrant communities that have long shouldered more than their fair share of industrial and environmental hazards, making a swift, coordinated, and transparent response essential.
"Thank you to the firefighters and emergency personnel working tirelessly to protect our communities. Please continue following guidance from emergency officials and stay safe."
