WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) issued the following statement after Republicans released H.R. 1, the so-called Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: “The Republican tax plan is a reckless scheme that puts corporations before working families and does nothing to create jobs, grow the economy, or raise wages. It would blow a $1.5 trillion hole into our deficit and fuel future Republican demands for substantial cuts to vital public services to compensate for the dramatic shortfall. It’s almost ingrained into the GOP DNA to hurt working families and then lie about it. I simply won't support any tax plan that hurts working families and sets up a scenario that slashes Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or other programs that millions rely on.” ### |
