Leader Jeffries becomes the newest member of the Dads Caucus in the fight for family friendly policies
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) announced today that House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) has joined the Congressional Dads Caucus. As Dads Caucus Chairman, Gomez is leading more than 45 members—including three senators: Andy Kim (D-NJ), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Adam Schiff (D-CA)—in advocating for family friendly policies that help working families afford their mortgages, rent, child care, and essentials at the grocery store. “Leader Jeffries joining the Dads Caucus shows the growing momentum behind our fight for working families, and I’m happy to welcome him to the Dads Caucus,” said Rep. Jimmy Gomez. “Since our founding two years ago, the Dads Caucus has grown from six members to 45 and is now bicameral. It has become a trusted voice both within and outside the halls of Congress. We will continue our core work on paid leave, accessible and high-quality child care, and the expanded child tax credit while also focusing on lowering everyday costs facing working families. The Dads Caucus was ahead in understanding the importance of advocating on behalf of families, and we’ll continue fighting to make America affordable for everyone.” “For far too long in this country, the cost of raising a child has gone up and too many parents are struggling to put food on the table,” said Democratic Leader Jeffries. “As a proud father of two, I’m looking forward to working alongside the Congressional Dads Caucus to ensure that every parent has the resources they need to support their families. Together we will continue to fight for affordable child care, paid leave and an expanded Child Tax Credit so that every family has a shot at the American Dream.” The Congressional Dads Caucus provides a forum for members of Congress to push legislation that supports working families. Founded soon after the Speaker vote in the 118th Congress, the Dads Caucus is fighting for policy solutions that help working families thrive and make America more affordable—including creating a national paid leave program, increasing access to affordable child care by expanding the Child Tax Credit, and ensuring working parents have the resources they need to provide for their families.
