WASHINGTON, D.C. – After the Astros were crowned champions of this year’s thrilling World Series, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles) today held up his end of a friendly wager he made with Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D – Houston), delivering LA’s nationally-renowned Philippe’s French Dipped Sandwiches to her office and a celebratory Astros speech on the floor of the House. “The excitement of this World Series is the reason why I have been a Dodgers fan since I played Little League as a kid. The Boys in Blue were on fire throughout the season, with both teams setting a World Series record for the most homers in a series. But the Astros proved triumphant, winning their first World Series trophy ever in MLB history,” said Rep. Jimmy Gomez. “I paid up my debt today by personally hand delivering Philippe’s French Dipped Sandwiches to Rep. Jackson Lee. I may have praised the Astros on the House floor, but I will always be a Dodgers fan because I bleed blue!” In a cart decked out in Dodgers gear, Congressman Jimmy Gomez delivered the city’s staple sandwich to Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. Flying them across the country in a checked piece of luggage filled with dry ice, Rep. Jimmy Gomez and his staff assembled the sandwiches in his office, carting them through two congressional buildings for a cheery delivery. In addition to wagering this local treat from his district, Rep. Jimmy Gomez also spoke on the House floor, extolling the Astros’ grit and talent throughout the World Series. A transcript of his remarks is below.
