Congressman Jimmy Gomez Invites Local Los Angeles DACA Recipient as State of the Union Guest

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) will be joined at the State of the Union Address by his constituent, Gabriela Clatenco, who is a DACA recipient and student at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). Gabriela is the daughter of undocumented immigrants and is currently working towards her bachelor’s degree in economics. She has lived in the U.S. since she was three years old.

“Gabriela is the embodiment of the American Dream. She is the daughter of undocumented immigrants, a high-achieving student on a full ride to UCR, and a volunteer at the local children’s hospital, but for years her life has been in limbo because of congressional republicans’ stonewalling,” said Rep. Gomez. “I invited Gabriela to the State of the Union to send a clear message that Democrats are fighting for the hundreds of thousands of DACA, TPS, and DED recipients who deserve a permanent, legislative path to citizenship. Republicans in the House and Senate must listen to the stories of Dreamers like Gabriela and put an end their extreme, xenophobic anti-immigrant agenda.”

“I am proud to be representing the voices of hard workers, immigrants, and Latino families from our district at the State of the Union. I would like President Biden to recommit to finding a permanent, legislative pathway to citizenship for all. I want to hear him say he will protect my parents who have lived in the U.S. for many years, who are taxpayers, and who are good people,” said Gabriela Clatenco. “I am nervous and excited, but I am happy to be representing the voices of my community and I thank Rep. Gomez for fighting for us and keeping our life stories front and center.”
