Los Angeles, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) hosted a roundtable discussion at the Los Angeles River Center & Gardens regarding the efforts to restore and increase access to the Los Angeles River.
Joined by stakeholders from 19 organizations operating at the local, state, and federal level, Congressman Gomez’s roundtable focused on federally and locally funded restoration efforts currently underway, as well as plans to create new recreational spaces and increase access to existing green spaces. “The Los Angeles River is an undertaking with the power to bring our entire city together,” said Congressman Gomez. “But a project of this magnitude demands an ‘all hands on deck’ approach, including coordination between private, nonprofit, and government entities. Fortunately, the diverse groups that joined us today for my Los Angeles River Roundtable made it clear they are prepared to do what is necessary to expand equitable access to this iconic waterway and ensure it can be enjoyed by all constituents and wildlife for generations to come.” “Our River is a treasure with limitless potential for the communities that surround it,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “I’m proud to work with Congressman Gomez and everyone who shares our commitment to bringing new life to this extraordinary civic and cultural resource.”
