Congressman Jimmy Gomez Announces Support for Green New Deal at Town Hall

Los Angeles, CA — Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) held his first town hall event of the 116th Congress where he announced he is an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal resolution introduced by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass).

The town hall – which was held at the Ramona Hall Community Center in Los Angeles – was attended by over 200 residents of the 34th Congressional District and touched on numerous topics including health care, affordable housing, strengthening the social safety net, and Congress’ ongoing investigations of the Trump administration.

“The most important part of my job as a Member of Congress is being accessible to my constituents,” said Congressman Gomez. “Like most Americans, Los Angeles’ working families face a host of challenges in their everyday lives — but they also bring unique and diverse perspectives on how we can address those challenges. Their voices and ideas have been, and will continue to be, at the foundation of every policy I champion in Washington.

“Of the topics discussed today at my town hall, the growing climate crisis was of particular importance. Climate change is one of the most urgent threats to our nation’s security and prosperity, and tackling it will require the federal government to adopt a comprehensive, bold, and equitable approach. As an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal resolution, I look forward to building upon California’s progress in combating climate change and elevating this ambitious plan of action to the forefront of our national dialogue.”
