Congressman Gomez Convenes Local Symposium on Equitable Infrastructure Priorities

LOS ANGELES – Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Co-Chair of the Ways and Means Committee Racial Equity Initiative, invited constituents to join him and a group of local and national leaders for a virtual symposium on just, equitable, and sustainable infrastructure. This conversation comes after the release of President Joe Biden’s historic infrastructure proposal, the American Jobs Plan, and ahead of Congressional action.

The panel of experts, which included Lily Roberts, Managing Director of Economic Policy at the Center for American Progress, Dr. Hector Flores, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Adventist Health, Antonio Sanchez, Political Director for IBEW 11, and Alvaro S. Sanchez, Vice President of Policy at the Greenlining Institute, answered questions from constituents and addressed different perspectives on infrastructure priorities in Los Angeles and across the country.

“The American Jobs Plan is a once-in-a-generation investment in America, slated to be the largest domestic jobs program since World War II,” said Congressman Gomez at the symposium. “Through the American Jobs Plan, we have an opportunity to rebuild our economy on the foundation of equity and fairness, providing good-paying jobs for American workers, while upgrading our national infrastructure system. But we must also ensure that it prioritizes building a sustainable future by investing in workforce development, resilient infrastructure solutions, and bold climate goals.”

Congressman Gomez was joined by over 90 members of the Los Angeles community at this symposium.
