Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) announced that the Paycheck Protection Program has disbursed 11,755 loans and helped retain over 140,000 jobs across California’s 34th Congressional District. This data is from the Small Business Administration’s data on the PPP’s impact on small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The COVID-19 crisis demanded a strong and immediate federal response to help our small business community survive the economic toll of the pandemic and keep local workers employed,” said Congressman Gomez. “Throughout this national public health emergency, I’ve listened to our local business owners about their concerns and the relief they needed to stay afloat, and I’m glad to see thousands of jobs in our district were saved because of the success of the Paycheck Protection Program. But there is more work to be done, and that’s why we need to pass the HEROES Act.” Congressman Gomez voted to pass the CARES Act in March – establishing the Paycheck Protection Program – as well as the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act to extend the window for small businesses to apply for loans and ease restrictions for loan forgiveness eligibility. Additionally, Congressman Gomez’s office directly helped local businesses receive over $1.3 million in COVID-19 related Small Business Administration loans. 11,755 loans were dispersed in California’s 34th Congressional District totaling $1.5 billion and allowing businesses to retain over 140,000 jobs.
